We replaced another brand that had died earlier than it should, and on the advice of several plumbers who like this brand the best, we bought one of these. Install was done professionally (as is needed to keep the warranty active on the unit) and didn’t take long at all. It is a larger unit than some others, but that’s because it has a small recirculating tank in it so that you get hot water quickly and also lessens the “cold water sandwich”. Also what is good is that turns on and works great with a very small/slow flow of a single bath faucet barely turned on, yet will handle a huge shower with 6 different showerheads + laundry + guests + dishwashing. I’m still very happy with it, one of the better home improvements I’ve made in a while. Just wanted to add that my gas bill has reduced significantly… more than I would have expected. In 2015 and 2016, my gas bill averaged about $115 (I have a gas furnace/heat and gas water heater) for Jan and Feb. Since installation of the Navien NPE-240, my gas bill for 2017 Jan and Feb, have averaged only $65. 50 bucks a month savings on utilities. I am very impressed with my Navien tankless water heater. I recently had the NPE-240A installed. It is easily one of the most efficient on the market. Due to it’s high efficiency, it can utilize the 1/2 inch gas line and 3 inch chimney style vent of my old 50 gallon gas tank heater; this saved me at least $1k on a larger/new gas line run from the meter and new exhaust vent work and/or drilling holes in the wall of my garage. I thought the built in hot water recirculation was going to be more of a sales gimmick than anything, but it works great! Without the need of running an external, costly, and efficiency depleting hot water recirculation line. I get hot water to my fixtures in about 1/4 of the time of my old standard tank heater. (so, it saves water as well as energy/$). It has built in valve and pump for a true hot water recirculation system though, if you really need instant hot water. Also, I turned the “intelligent” pre-heat feature off, as my hot water use is sporadic, and it would be impossible for the computer to identify any sort of pattern to my hot water use.. but that’s just me. Make sure you have it installed properly! I have a feeling that the reason for the mixed reviews is due to the fact that people who have no knowledge/training on Naveen’s advanced technology are installing these things. Sure, they might be good plumber’s/handymen/DIY’ers, but education is everything with new, more advanced tech. I went to the Navien website and searched for Navien certified installers nearby using my Zip. In order for a plumber to be officially certified by Navien, they have to travel to their corporate office in California and take a 2 to 3 day training course. Pretty impressive, I think. This is the only way to get the 15 yr warranty, as well. I did hours of research before I pulled the trigger on a tankless heater. But, just compare every aspect of the Navien’s to any other tankless on the market, and the NPE-240A will kill the competition in nearly every spec… technology, efficiency, capability, performance, installation options, warranty, etc. For what you get, the price is a bargain. And the big test, can it handle a heavy water load.. YES, it’s very impressive at heating water! Can easily heat to 140 degrees with 4 fixtures running at once. I am very impressed with my Navien tankless water heater. I recently had the NPE-240A installed. It is easily one of the most efficient on the market. Due to it’s high efficiency, it can utilize the 1/2 inch gas line and 3 inch chimney style vent of my old 50 gallon gas tank heater; this saved me at least $1k on a larger/new gas line run from the meter and new exhaust vent work and/or drilling holes in the wall of my garage.
